For one thing the exhaust is on the wrong side to be a 22 cudic inch OMC built motor.--Recoil does not look like an OMC either.
I see motors misidentified all the time !!

The cowling does not extend out very far from the block at the front.----Likely due to a carburetor on the side ???????

I don't think that it is a west bend they didn't use that kind of recoil. And it does not look like my early 60s West Bend 20 hp as well?
And I also think that the carburetor is on the side.there is also a fuel line which goes to the side. So that will probably be on the side.

This is a 10 hp West Bend that I was told could be a 20 with a 20 carb.

Back in the 50's/early 60's when there was still a Montgomery Wards chain, they sold engines that were that color red. I think they carried the brand name "Buccaneer". Bucaneers also came in other colors - I remember a two-tone combination of green and cream white, too. They looked like several other motors of the day - Gale, Sea King, Brooklure to name a few - which I understood to be out of production Johnson/Evinrudes. But, they could have been of foreign origin for all I know. We had a 12 hp Brooklure my dad brought new from Western Auto Supply. We ran it on a plywood kit boat my dad had built. I learned to ski behind it when I was 9. I'm now 66 so you can figure out how old it was. It had more compression than my arm could overcome so when I needed to start it, one of buddies would lay across the top of power head to hold it down while I yanked with both hands. He never fell in the drink and it always started.

Where would the carburetor be mounted on a " Buccaneer "---- front or on the side of the block ?
