I got my 1966 evinrude 33 ski twin engine out on the lake for the first time after cleaning the points. Now it might be missing or have bad mixture (or both)

anyway i Picked up a carb repair kit from my local evinrude dealer and got everything disassembled and cleaned.

I found a metal clip with the new float valve & seat assembly that i think is supposed to act as a spring to ensure that the float valve doesn't get stuck shut. But i'm not sure if i should install it. there was not clip/spring like this on the valve before i disassembled it. I was having problems running the engine at high rpm before so not sure what will happen if i get this wrong.

should i install this spring? like this maybe?

there is no mention of this clip/spring in the shop manual.

thanks for your quick help, i want to get this re-assmebled asap

Never mind, ive decided go remove the clip , the original valve didnt have a spring or even a means to attach the spring.

Be honest. Am i a drama queen? :P

Usually that clip slides on the float arm to control the needle.
Yours looks like the needle is controlled by the float arm itself.
So the clip your talking about is probably optional in that carb rebuild kit.

It is not a spring and does not act as a spring !---In the picture it is installed upside down and the leg should be below the wide brass part of the float.----Then when fuel level drops it pulls the needle down if need be.

Thanks guys, hopefully it works well enough without a clip we'll find out soon eough. Professor i see what you mean, that makes perfect sense. Too bad i've already assembled the carb. without the clip. Not going to open it back up without another gasket. the rebuild kit cost me $45, so i guess i should have stepped back and relaxed for a day.

I believe the clip was added when the rubber tip was added to the needle (which can stick in the valve seat). You shouldn't need a new carb gasket to re-open/close the carb.

I have 2 complete carbs from the same engine, 1 from a ski twin 33hp and 1 from a 40hp with ele choke, if ya ever need a parts carb.
I also have an extra hood in fair shape.

and yes the clip is upside down in the pic,and as far as the high spd miss, you should have a high spd mixture adjustment available on that mdl, you will need a friend to drive full spd to adjust that.

Thanks Ponyboy, got the carb sorted (i think) opened it up, added the clip installed properly and adjusted the float as was flooding the engine while i squeezed teh bulb.

Im going to start a new thread with newfound problems on the lower unit. this engine might not be saved.
