Anyone know the best (cheapest also) place to order coils for my 1958 evinrude 18? They fit many others also right?

NAPA auto parts. Most, if not all, have a marine catalog. Yes, they fit many models/years.

I think they use the Sierra Marine Parts catalogs.

Paul, the Sierra Marine part number is 18-5181 and NAPA uses a similar numbering system for the Sierra parts they sell from their small engine catalog (with a prefix of SME).

Also available online and many places for around $17 + shipping, don't know how that compares to NAPA but my local store seems to charge full retail for most stuff. I usually get a better deal online.

Here's the NAPA online catalog entry for the coils, their list price is $26.49 so you might check if your local NAPA has a better deal:

Here's a few other places online for less $$$:

Ebay has the best deals. Look for a listing that is for a pair of coild with free shipping. Just got a pair last month at half of what it would have cost via NAPA. Don not make the mistake of buying NOS coils that have red / blue / black plastic cases. Get the new production light green ones only.

Buy from NAPA and keep your sale slip....

They are warranty for life.

Some I bought off of ebay and from one of the members on AOMCI failed after 3 to 4 years (most of my motors sit more then they run but the heat gets to the coils down here when stored in a tin shed and it is 100° + outside).....no warranty. One I bought from NAPA I took it back as to order another and the guy behind the counter kept the old one and gave me the new...even said that they were sorry that it failed but could tell that it was a Sierra item even without the sales slip
