TOPIC: Weight of a 1960's Johnson 60hp

Does anyone know the approximate weight of this motor? I'm considering one for my boat (15') and don't want to over do it. I've been looking for a 35-40hp but is the extra weight and two more cylinders worth it?

it all depends on what you want to use the boat for as to Hp. Sking pulling tubes or just crusing and fishing.

Go to the Old OMC site and look up your motor.
There should be info on the weight (sp) of your motor.

Mike - I would be mostly cruising and some fishing.

Elgindave - thanks for the info. That site is a good resource. Looks like the 60hp is 225lbs. A 40hp of the same year runs 154, so there is a considerable difference. May have to go back to the 40 idea.

If you don't mind a motor from the 70s, find either a 50 HP looper twin, or a 60-75 HP looper tripple. Way more power, great on gas, heaver than the 40 - but great engines. The 40 drinks a surprising amount of fuel. The 60 V4 drinks gas like there is a hole in the tank.

I never found my Lark III to be that hard on gas, but the 88spl I replaced it with sure is!
