TOPIC: 1986 60 HP Johnson Fuse ?

I have a 1986 60 hp Johnson and am having an electrical problem. I've hooked up the engine to the neg terminal on the battery and the pos to a 40 amp bus terminal on the pos terminal. It blows the 40 amp every time. If I make a dirct contact to the pos terminal there is no problem starting. THe 40 amp fuse was recommended at my local marine dealer but I'm thinking it is way to low. Any suggestions?

Both engine cables need to be hooked directly to the battery posts.

Never heard of putting a fuse in between the Bat and the starter....Are they the ones $elling you the fu$e$
