TOPIC: Score!! (or did I?)

Picked this up at an auction tonight for 40 bucks. Looks very complete, turns over freely via the pull cord, feels like it has good compression, tank is clean. SN is 4404 31174. carried it into the shop and set it aside. What is it?

Looks to be an Evinrude Zephyr, 5.4 HP, unique in that it was one of the smallest 4-cylinder outboards.

it is indeed a zephyr (says the badge on it). Any idea the year? Did you mean four cyclnder, or fous stroke? I havent even opened the bonnet.

Can anyone point me to a source for Serial Numbers? And/or a source for a parts/shop manual on this one?

My biggest challenge will be to NOT start on this one until I have my Merc 1000 back together....

Year = 1947 sorry for the delay .. Dont normally scan OMC daily. I had one years ago. YES, can idle very low for trolling / fishing. I have the AOMCI 21 page bookelet on serial #'s 1909 - 1959 . Four spark plugs,,, two cycle / mix oil config.
Not a rare motor , your pic seems complete.

It is a 2 stroke 4 cyl, Runns on 16 to 1 mix. it fires on 2 cyl at a time with two coils. Some love them many hate them. I have 2 one running, the other...well one of these days

When you get ready to rebuild the carb let me know and I will send you the shop manual on it.....you are going to need it
