Got my power tilt to work......finally. 12 years 10 months ago #54277

Raining here today so it was a good time to tinker on the power tilt I got off of ebay last spring. I figured out the PO had put the piston on backwards on the shaft of the lift cylinder.After I fixed that it worked great. I put it on the Crestliner so I won't have to crawl up in the splashwell and put my foot against the transom to lift the motor anymore
 . Thought I'd show some pics.

Man, can I relate to that! Good work Jim, bet you're going to love it. Lookin' forward to just hitting the buttons on the new E'rude, hopefully. Love my Johnson but that thing is a bugger to tilt up! (Got the scuff marks on the transom from my shoe to prove it.  ) |

The first time I tried to lift it standing on the floor, about pulled a muscle in my back
 ! It's a good three feet at least to the lift handle that way. Mark, I seen an engine the other day, if these old motors give out ,I'm debating going on the hunt for. It's not that old ,but it sure is nice.

That does look like a nice one Jim! Hope you don't need it though, but you could always do a "retro" paint job on it to make it less noticeable.
 Can't help it, I love the V4's! |

Another rainy Saturday...This was the only place I could figure out to mount the switch. What do you guys think?

Looks good to me. My only suggestion would be to add a waterproof switch at the back somewhere (motor pan, splashwell, gunnel) so you don't have to go forward to tilt when doing tinkering, maintainance, transom saver, etc. Best advice I ever received, very handy, not very much $.

Nice job Jim, looks good. Got mine working yesterday too, (it was raining and storming here as well), bypassed the relay box. I'll check that out later, still finishing up the carb/fuel pump rebuild, hose replacement. Kerry has an excellent suggestion on the aft switch, just have to figure out where to put it.

Thanks guys,That's a great idea Kerry.It would be neat if I could find another switch to match the one up front or one original for a 1962 model tilt. The toggle would go at the back.It has a rubber boot on it. This is an original type for a 62-63.

Thanks Sabre, I had three back surgeries a few years back so I can use the extra lift.
