TOPIC: Head swap 80 HP 67 to 66

Head swap 80 HP 67 to 66 13 years 3 months ago #43879

I have a 1966 80 HP Johnson mechanical shift/generator and a 1967 80 HP Evinrude electric shift/ stator. Can I swap heads? The Johnson has low compression in one cylinder from sitting too long other than that it in great shape. The Evinrude runs well but lower unit is slipping.

The Evinrude seems to be slipping out of gear. I first thought it was the prop slipping, but changed the propeller and it still seems to be slipping. Thinking it may be the lower unit. I put a lot of money into this motor an do not want to go much deeper. Thinking I may swap the head off from this one over to the Johnson if It would work.

What good is swapping the heads gooing to do. Low compression is the result of piston/ring/cylinder walls.

I misspoke I meant the whole block unbolt off one bolt up to the other. The Johnson is the original motor for the boat and cosmically is in better shape.
