TOPIC: Why Do I Have An Oil Leak on a 2-Stroke?

And it's not from the gearcase.

It's not unusual to have some oil around the exhaust port, but I just wipe it up and that's the end of it. These two have been dripping for week with no signs of slowing down.

It's leaking from around the cooling water pickup and the cooling water exit hole in the front of the exhaust housing.

How did I get an oil leak on a two stroke?

If your running rich you can have a lot of unburnt oil in the exaust tube. Evin if its not running rich if you do a lot of trolling or slow speed the oil will bilf up in the exaust tube. Oil leaking from these old outboards is nothing unual.

I concur - I don't see anything unusual there. If anything, the motor might be running on the rich side.

Please do not cut back on your oik gas mix as to stop it! Your motor will last longer having too much oil then it will with not enough

I did idle it quite a bit waiting for the ramp to clear.

I also found that the distributer points were too tight. Now I need to get it back out at see if it's a little less doggy off the line.
