If it looks as good inside as the outside and has good compression and spark I would say you got a good deal. Those twint if tanken care of will run forever.

Okay now. Wiped off the drool and got a cold drink. If it isn't stuck, its worth it. If the pressure tank works, and it runs, its DEFINITELY worth it.

O K,I went and picked it up today ,got it home, done a compression test. I came up with 60 lb per cylinder. Is it still worth it or junk??? I told my friend I'd either bring the motor back or a $100 bill.jim

Little low on pressure...Turn the crank till the pistons are near center of stroke (Use a soda straw in the spark plug hole to find center)

Add about a 1/2 cup of diesel and transmission fluid mixes 50/50 to each cyl (motor face down and let sit....may want to place on cardboard as it will leak out this should loosen up the rings

You got your money worth,,,as parts you can piece it out for over $300 the tank fitting is worth $35 along and on the tank cleaned up $75 (with the fitting)

Check the wrist pin/ piston / bushing for looseness.
If that is good they are an excellent motor.

Do you know how to do this without taking the motor all apart....If not I will email you on how

I think on that motor it is 8 screws (at the most 10)and 2 gaskets (gaskets you can make yourself by pinging them out on the block)

Once you have let the motor sit over night with the deisal and trans fluid in iltlet us know what you have for compression. Also after the compression test if still a little low try getting it to fireup and ran for a half hour. Then check compression you may find the compressino has come up to at least 80lbs its a runner.

Easy to check
remove spark plug
Use a small screw driver to follow the piston down to about mid stroke
Push on piston while holding flywheel.
You will feel / hear if it is bad.

I checked the wrist pins and rechecked the compression. The pistons pushed down with a screwdriver and the flywheel didn't move so pins have play in them and the compression stayed the same(65lbs for both) so I am taking her home. I'd rather have my $100. :) That's two or three trips to the lake. Thanks for the replies to all you guys, I've decided to concentrate on the junk ( ah ,I mean glassics )I have instead of acquiring more "stuff". :P
