TOPIC: Gear Grease

I'm tired of using 90w gear oil in my older OMC engines. Anyone use an easily purchased grease that will work in the old (50s) gearcases?

Corn Head Grease...Will not wash out and will not mix with water

Most NAPAs around here have it or can get it

Does this work in Selectric lower units as well? Seems like it might be a little heavy but type C is a little pricey.

It would do no damage, however it may be a bit thick ...too thick for the coils to over come...If you try it and it is too thick it will not drain out...you would have to remove the LU and pull it apart as to clean it out....One of the reason it so good for the 50s and older motors (and some early 60s) ......seal goes bad and it does not leak out and water will not turn it into whip cream

Just use ATF in the electrics shift lower units.

Bearings / clutches / springs need oil to work properly. ---I can not imagine someone wanting to use grease in an electric shift lower unit.

Someone should post how grease / oil and other lubricants " work " in bearings.
