TOPIC: 2 ?s: Charging Circuit and 2 Cycle Oil Selection

2 ?s: Charging Circuit and 2 Cycle Oil Selection 13 years 7 months ago #25790

1: To test the charging circuit on an old 100 horse do I just put the meter across the battery terminals and look for the voltage to rise when the motor is running?

2: Are all 2 cycle oils created equal? Probably not, but last year I did have to buy a quart of Walmart brand for lack of anything else available. What do you guys like?

Test battery motor stopped.----12.4 volts or so.
Motor running should show increasing voltage with RPM 13 volts and up.
Some of the charging system bits are unique to these motors and only availabe used.

Any good TCW-3 2-stroke oil is OK, as long as its mixed properly. Many use walmart and add a bit extra. Oil is cheaper than parts. I personally use Pennzoil FULL synthetic, buy it at Menards for $25 a gallon. Less smoke, and its biodegradable. What motor/year are you talking about?

The electrical system / charging must be in good shape.
The shift system demands constant 12 volts applied when in gear.
