TOPIC: How do I add a "Kill Switch" and or "Keyed Start"

How do I add a "Kill Switch" and or "Keyed Start" 6 years 5 months ago #136967

Have an Evinrude 65 hp Triumph Electro shift
Model # 652739
Ser # J011014
Motor is up and running fine but.....
....My console has just a Start Push Button, and choke toggle, No Kill switch NOT Good. Not Safe!
Has anyone done this or have the electric schematic of the start/run wiring,so I can at least add a "Kill Switch"?
Seems it should be simple if I just know the right wires to "interrupt" with a toggle switch or keyed switch.
Thanks for the help.

I have a similar setup. I bought a current kill switch. i haven't installed it yet but if you find the power to the ignition then use the kill switch to cut that power when you pull the lanyard it will work. my run circuit does not go through the control box.

Not exactly. The 65 Triumph doesn't have any "power" used in the running circuit, .ie 12V is not required to create spark. There is an ignition circuit at the switch, likely marked with an M on your ignition switch. One of them goes to ground, the other goes to the power pack by way of the wiring harness. If you link into that wire, black and yellow if memory serves, you can install your switch there. Add your switch TO the circuit, don't undo the circuit that's there, as you want BOTH the kill switch AND the key switch to be able to turn off the motor.
