Can anyone tell me what ignition coil brands that fit my 58 evinrude 18 hp and many other motors are good or junk. Looking for reasonably priced ones. All input will be appreciated.

The cheapest out there right now are Chinese-made but are low in quality, sold by Sierra Marine (aftermarket). The good ones are the OEM, OMC, green German-made Prufrex coils formerly sold by Jim Judson’s, AOMCI member.

I have no experience, no recommendations for CDI.

I have bought from him in the past for excellent price and service.

Hey Andy I believe Jim is out of the coil business these days.

Sorry to hear that, thanks for the correction. I haven’t been following the latest AOMCI news, but I do remember reading that the Prufrex coils were being discontinued. I edited the post to remove Jim’s info.

Use this link. Sierra parts can be purchased over the counter at any Napa auto store. I bought through this link many times. last purchase was for two CDI brand coils for my '58 Evinrude 5.5hp. No problems at all. Price is extremely reasonable. Around $17 each.
