TOPIC: Bargain on a '65 Rude

Just picked up a '65 sport four 60 hp Evinrude for $70. The whole shebang, controls, ignition with amp meter and all the wiring. Inside is clean with no mouse nests, chewed wires or leaking lines. Still laying in the back of my Jeep smelling like an old gas pump. Owner said it was run this last spring and it looks almost pristine. It has a generator on it and a long shaft extension. Looking at the model number (60553C) on marineengine.com and I can't find any info on the generator. Is it listed somewhere else? The drive belt is missing for the generator and I'll need to put one on before I can test run it. Any links?

Generator was an option. Won't find it in the engine parts catalog, it's in the accessory catalog. You need belt #305726

Note that your motor should have a magneto, so if it has spark, you can run it and it doesn't require the generator to be operational for that.

Is it manual or electric shift? Because if it's a Selectric model, you will need to have the generator going to keep the battery hot.

Even though the motor keep running on the magneto, once the battery runs down you lose power to the L/U Fwd/Reverse coils and default to Neutral. Rather inconvenient if you're miles out!

That's good to know. It is a manual shift. Right now I managed to get the heavy beast on a stand and where it sits until I can get at it.
The PO said it ran this spring, it has new plugs, clean wiring and the gas in the fuel bowl was clear and blue as it should be so I have no reason to think he was untruthful. Did a quick pull on the rope and it has strong compression that I can tell but I didn't take any readings.
The belt is missing from the generator, that is why I was asking about it but all the wires are hooked up. I didn't know it had the generator until I was removing the motor from the sellers boat and saw the large solenoid box with the volt regulator and the amp meter on the dash with the factory ignition panel.
