TOPIC: '59 Evinrude Four Fifty Part ID Question

My fatty has a lower end from a different year. Clutchdog replacement time. I have it apart and new clutchdog installed. I am having a hard time identifying the oring/seal that goes in the slot on top of the gear case shown in the picture.

Originally I had ID the lower end as a 1968 85 hp. The seal (307103) I bought for that unit is way to large for the recess on the gear case. Do I have the wrong lower end identification? Any ideas?

Part #92, 307103 O-ring, should be the one you need to fit in the groove. It helps to glue the gasket in using contact cement, some OMC sealer, or even Permatex #3 brush-on gasket dressing, which is sticky enough to hold the O-ring in place as you're assembling the gearcase halves.

Thanks Ed, I was going goofy looking at all the diagrams that I could think of. This creates a new issue. That diagram says it takes the same o-ring that I bought (307103), so now I question what I got. I do have questions asked of some of those same seller on what the diameter of the o-ring is.

The one I bought is way too big and might be a seller error but if not I'm hoping one of the sellers comes through. The propeller shaft bearing o'ring that I have is a great fit but not thick enough.

The seller came through, although somewhat confusing. I chose the auction where there were 10 of 12 o-rings already sold. He couldn't explain what happened but like a good seller is shipping the right one today.

I didn't have any plans for the 1963 Glass Magic this weekend due to the abundance of drunks.
