TOPIC: volvo penta BB70 wont crank over....suggestions?

So.....did a test run the other day before fishing starts all seemed fine. Now......when you turn the key you can hear the starter spinning but the engine wont crank over...almost lile its not firing. It just clicks. I cleaned all terminals and connections, checked all pugs and wires, distributor, fuel, everything. Battery is good and voltage is good. Im not 100% familiar with the bb70 so im not sure what to look at next.

If starter is spinning but motor not turning over (cranking), then problem is with the starter - bendix not kicking up to meet the flywheel teeth.

There can be a couple of other causes here;
Low voltage to the starter - make sure the battery is charged completely, and the cables and connections are in good shape and clean.
Starter shaft (armature) that the bendix (drive) rides on could be cruddy and/or dry. If so clean with brake cleaner and just a drop of oil or light grease.
If all else fails the starter may need to go to an electrical repair shop for service. Likely new bushings and brushes will solve the problem, possibly a new bendix as well.
