TOPIC: 1966 Evinrude Starflite 100-S Tach Question

Does anyone have any advice on an appropriate tach for this engine; how it would be installed and a possible location to buy one?

As I'm trouble shooting and for future info, I suspect having one would assist,

If the engine uses a distributor with points and a coil, just buy a tachometer that will work on a V8 car engine. Follow the instructions and it should work great. Be sure the tach is set for 8 cylinders, not 4 or 6. A 4 cylinder 2 cycle has the same number of firing impulses per revolution as an 8 cylinder 4 cycle engine.

If your engine has the electronic ignition, you will have to find a vintage tach designed to work with that motor. Nothing new is available that will work with the solid state ignitions from that era.

Hey Bruce,
Just asking, an alternator (12pole) tach won't work on that motor?

This in not your year motor but most of it is the same as your. Just thought you can use.
