TOPIC: Two & a half men

Well, motors really. I finally have my old Johnsons running, woohoo!
Much thanks to Gord at Riverside Marine. I put a generator on one of them and I see in the brochure that an ammeter was part of the kit. Would Johnson have had there own meter as shown in the pic, or would it have been an aftermarket item? looking for an NOS one.

There is a specific ammeter they used that replaced the emblem, doesn't look like the pic though. I don't have a pic of one, but I'm sure someone will.

Looking GREAT. I've seen different meters over the years, but none exactly like the one in the brochure you show. The did make many different styles - some with a cool "star Trek" boomerang on them. Note how these meters topped out at 10 to 15 amps. Most all ammeters for general use go up to 25 amps or higher. You can use a higher amp scale meter, but the needle won't deflect much when it's charging, and what fun is that? Do you have the regulator box ? I also have been told by old timers that if you ran twins with generators, that they would screw each other up and not charge correctly. Using a generator on only one of the engines gave the best results. Not sure if this is true or not - but it sounds believable.

Yes, I have the regulator & you're right, only one generator.

Just for the record, if you use two generators, you need an accessory "Current Coupler Kit". It's actually a couple of diodes in a heat sink
