TOPIC: Bought a (modified?) G3 yesterday...thoughts?

Bought a (modified?) G3 yesterday...thoughts? 12 years 8 months ago #59203

Yesterday a friend mentioned to my wife and I that he had just put a boat up for sale...a Glasspar G3...for $3.50. He then went on to say that the price was negotiable. :silly:

He had the G3 as a project, along with a few other boats, but as he's getting up in years and isn't able to do as much anymore, he decided to let a few of them go. We went by after work to check it out, and although it is almost a completely bare hull, I was fairly impressed with the condition.

I counted out $3.50 and went to the owners house to make my purchase. After talking about it for a bit, he told me that for $3.50, he would deliver the boat to my house today along with a trailer and a bunch of parts that he has inside one of their buildings. hmm...OKAY!

I'm excited to see what else he has for this boat, but the thing that really has me curious is the transom. I would guess that someone had raised it to run a larger engine, but it's done a bit differently than I've seen before. It's sort of blended in with the lines of the boat all the way to the front of the splash well. Anyone ever seen one done like this?

Thanks,
Phillip

I haven't seen one done like that, but it does look nice. A neat way to raise the transom for using long shaft motors. Look forward to some pics when you get done with it. Too bad you had to fork over so much coin.

He's a tough dealer!
The way this is happening you might end up with a nice Stinger or a Frankened-Merc in the bunch of parts. And a windscreen.
It looks to have been made ready for push/pull steering. Nice find Phillip, good luck to you.

Nice boat. Transom looks great. Put a long-shaft engine on it and enjoy, after you get it repaired and ready to go!!!

Very nice open deck. I dont normally like OD's but your stern area looks real well done blending with the transom and motor well, doesn't really look modified. Nice find..... ;)

Nice boat- But you overpaid. Not worth a penny over 3.49 :)

Looks like they did a nice job of the 'conversion' to long shaft- one of the cleaner installations I've seen.
