TOPIC: The new forum environment

I asked Ken if there was a help file for the forum.
He pointed me to the forum developer's website.

You sold that boat. Did you not?
A white 6 cylinder Mercury 700 on a G-3
is a nice combo. With right propeller it will
jump out to the hole. My 3 cylinder OMC is
slow out of the hole.

Here's Jim spotting that 90hp+ OMC three boat lengths with his "wimpy" Merc 650!!!

Nice pic John, as I am ahead in this one too!!!! And, yes, the OMC did pass me a bit later, as it should with all its "added hp" from its owner tweaking it from head to toe!!!!

As I remember it. It was you who wanted the race!
It was I who spotted you the three boat lengths.
My G-3 is slow out of the hole. I don't think the picture lies.
In addition, I or should I say my "Wimpy" OMC motor. Spotted your Mercury
one extra cylinder. (3 vs. 4) so your Mercury motor is bigger than mine
by about 16 cu. inches. You have years of "racing" experience and you are
older than I. So you should have known better. Could it be that the Engineers
at OMC made a better product than Mercury did back in the old days?

All I know is this was the result of that afternoon.

Bought that motor local for a couple hundred bucks, including controls.
Only issue I had with it were lower unit seals.
Your right, with an a three blade 11p, she would jump right out of the water.
It was a kick!
Never knew the top end speed, as I couldn't get the speedo to work.
I'd picked up a couple of two blade brass props, but never got the chance to try them out. Still have them in inventory if anyone is interested: One is a 13p the other a 15.

Most fun I had with her was jumping wakes.
Had a few great air moments, but no pics to prove it.

Yes, sold her last year to a guy out of texas wanting one to restore.
He was updating me for awhile on the progress.
Last I heard, she was apart and getting the transom and floor replaced professionally.
Have not heard anything for some time.
Tried to contact him earlier this year to see how things were going, but no response.

Hated to sell her
Got in big trouble with my daughter for doing so
But, with the economy the way it is, didn't seem likely I'd get three projects done, let alone one.

I've pretty much collected everything necessary for the structure work on 095: short maybe a few gallons of resin and a little glass.
My plan is to get the transom and maybe the stringers and floor in before the fall chill.
With July almost gone, I'd better get after it!!!

Maybe it's un-cool to post pics of a boat one no longer owns....?

I agree with your daughter but understand.

I paid $300.00 for my 1960 Merc 700 around 1965. In those days, controls
were included without question. I gave the motor away in 1980
when I moved back to Florida from New Jersey. I did not
have room for an extra motor having purchased the 1978 Johnson "Stinger"
for my G-3. Always wanted to buy a motor "in the box". I would have
purchased a Mercury motor , in the box, but the dealer would not sell me a short shaft
85 hp motor saying my boat would not hold it. The OMC dealer was a better
businessman. It turns out the OMC was a better deal for me. Just ask Jim.

If I had known, she had such an attachment to the boat, I would have thought thrice about it.

As it is, or was, I figured, had two, could spare one.

I will always have fond memories of her tho

Picking her up off the side of the road, and sendin her down the road and everything in between.

Even if it was uncool to post the pics, I'd probably push those boundaries.
