Hi looking for help with the points cam, it looks like the cam as moved on the crankshaft, the cam is very hard to remove so I do not want to make work if the cam is in the right place.
points set at 020 thou but they are opening late after DTC.

It's just possible the cam is upside down? Given the clockwise flywheel rotation I'd assume that the points would open slowly and drop off the high point of the cam quickly. See this pic of the 55 cam..it's marked in direction of rotation, like the 'top' in some OMCs...yours may not have this, so don't go on my say so. The pic of the armature plate shows how mine was before I twigged...Also check your cam position in relation to the flywheel keyway. I'd again assume that this motor (even if early generation West Bend) would have had a single key that fitted down into the cam inline with the keyway on the flywheel. They are known to break keys, if the flywheel is not properly torqued.

Hi
In my parts book it shows a peg for the points cam and its drawn in line with the flywheel key but that would make the points open later, the cam is very very tight so I do not what to damage it, if it in the right place on the crankshaft, I will try to see if there any marks on the cam.
Thanks.

Mine was very tight too, you can see was rusted in position, but it had to be done. I used a puller in the end as I couldn't get enough height or leverage on the stator plate.

Notice the tang on the long key picking up the cam slot.
