Hi,
I am currently working on a old chrysler 45hp, 1967. my service manual doesnt have any specs on internal clearances, specifically the cylinder to piston. It states 3.125 bore, and mine measure 3.127.
with a nos piston (310015), I have .006-.008. in my opinion, this seems excessive.
The piston is a thick heavy slug, more so than on any other 2 stroke i have ever rebuilt, im wondering if its just the way they are and have alot of expansion. A new set of rings have .005 end gap.
I have looked in some newer force books and found specs ranging from .009-.014" service limits on 35-55hp engines. anyone ever get into these things and have any advice, things to watch out for. thanks pete

In a hot rod car engine I would build it looser than that. They spin up faster when they have more space.

Those specs seem normal to me.

i got it figured out. the pistons are cam ground by almost .008". they just make it simple....finish to specs and go, no worrying about the clearance. If the bores are done right then its good to go.
