TOPIC: AL Alumacraft

AL Alumacraft 8 years 7 months ago #122097

Trying to fix up an old Model AL Alumacraft.

What's your favorite paint and process to apply
to repair / replace the original non-skid paint
on the inside of the boat?

What's left of the old paint appears to be "Gray".
Is this correct?

I met a guy at an auction that suggested this, but
thought I'd get your thoughts.
=======================
Scrape loose paint
Sand bare spots with 150 grit sandpaper
Spot prime with Professional brand, Super Etch Primer (I buy primer at auto parts store... just pick your favorite store and see what they have)
Then apply Professional brand Epoxy Primer over the Super Etch'd spots
Then apply Hunters Specialties permanent Camo paint I got from Gander Mountain
I mixed a the two colors they had (Marsh Grass and Olive Drab) to a close match to the old paint.
=============
Also, the inside transom board needs replaced, as it had
a replacement, rough sawn, warped, oak board.
What type of board was there originally?
It appears that it needs to be about 1-1/8" thick, so
that's a problem already.
Thoughts appreciated, Tom
