TOPIC: Starting the redo on the '56 Arkansas Traveler

Hoping to get a new coat of paint on her before cold weather hits. I am replacing the wood on the transom first. Leaving the original black finish on the bottom. I will repaint the white with Mercury "cloud white" that we know is not white. My '61 500 is going on it next spring. I will trim it with a color depending upon the seat uphoulstry. I will use stainless sheet metal to form the end mounts for an original style windshield.

hugo, that is a cool way to lift your boat, I also have a real cool set of windshield posts, if you were looking for a set. greg

Thanks, I would like to see a photo of them. The library has a photo of this boat and I am trying to do the windshield some what like the original. An end post is all they used with 3 bolts across the bottom.

New transom is in place. 2" thick with 3 layers of plywood bonded with west system epoxy and cloth. Ready for the 1/8" overlay for the motor to clamp to. I have used this hobby plywood 1/4 and 1/8 to handle the abuse from the clamps and over the aluminum on the outside where the transom clamps up. It is 5 ply ( 1/4") hardwood with no voids, is impervious to fuel, oil and such. I used it many years ago building r c airplanes for motor mounts and bulkheads. It has been on one transom for 2 seasons is looking good. I don't glue it on, just put 4 small screws in it as the transom clamp holds it. Tough stuff.
