Slow and steady wins the race, also helps from making some mistakes by taking your time and not hurrying. Well works for me anyway, most of the time! LOL Looks great so far!

sorry i have not posted for awhile, i have not given up.lol. i have been busyer than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. but we got all the hay baled up and acouple other things done, just got back to the rocket yesterday got the transom final fitting done and got it glassed in this morning, no pic's at this time as all you would see is clamps. going to cut the 2 stringers this aftenoon and get them fitted and maybe get them in tomorrow, got a buy for fiberglass off of C/L so saved some cash there . just missed 30 gallons of resin and hardner for the sum of 100.00 :( . but he still had the glass. talk later. frog

hi all, just to let you know yhat i haven't passed away. it's just that i had more other work to catch up on than i expected on. i cut the first set of stringers out of marine plywood and they seemed kinda weak so i got a nice straight grained white oak and made 2 new ones, i think they will work out good, i started to fit them in and got to grinding more fiberglass out around the stringer channels and decieded to clean up the edges where the 2 floation chambers are and some on the floor. now my shop vac needs to be kick started every time i turn it on, i'll have to make a better filtration device for the new one. i guess the dust from the fiberglass did it in. i also took the rocket off of the trailer to get it lower so i can reach the center of the floor. i forgot how much fun fiberglassing is!!!!!!! i will have pictures on the next post as you can not really see any progress now even that there was alot of grunt work done.my wife (renee) says it will be yellow when i get to the point of painting it. that is the orginal color and she puts up with me so yellow it will be, but with the frog decals that john drew for me. take care. frog

Looks like you are doing a great job! It takes a while to get it all prepped and everything sanded nice like that.

hi all, just a short note to say that the rocket is going into storage for the winter. i have not got much done to her in the last month, except for glassing in the transom and getting the white oak stringers cut and fitted. the company i work for sold out and i was saving all my cash in case i lost my job. but it seems like i still have it. and it is getting real cold here, so i'll just start saving up parts and start on it in the spring. take care to all of you and will talk later. frog

Glad to hear your job survived the transition Frog, I know that can be very unsettling. You've made some really good progress this year, and will be that much farther ahead next spring. I managed to save a good bit last winter buying needed items during the "off season", planning ahead saved time and money toward the end of the project.

Hope you don't hibernate so hard you don't drop by and say Hi once in a while! :)

frog,

It's time to come to SOUTH TX & play with the bikini-clad Canadian lovelies in Corpus!
(Drag the boat down here & I'll take you waterskiing on NEW YEAR'S DAY.)

FORECAST: 88 degrees & SUNNY today in The Alamo City.

Frog, pay no attention to satx, it's pronounced sadistic. he likes to rub warm weather into all us northerners about this time of year. I've been following your progress since the "shell lake" headline grabbed me. I'm starting a '69 shell lake sunliner for a winter project.
We'll be waiting for some more reports next spring or maybe up in da "daloot" area that would be early June.

Frog, I'm 7 hours southeast of Daloot north of Green Bay. I have a sister in law that lives north of Hibbing/Grand Rapids, Hartley Lake, who we see about once a year. Have to go through Superior/Duluth on the way up.

Re:1958 shell lake rocket project 12 years 2 months ago #70981

fro; 63 Sabre,

The Gulf is NICE/WARM this time of year, the Canuck lovelies are nearly naked in their bikinis, the draft beer is cold/flowing & the fish are biting.
(I find it AMUSING that the LESS fabric in a bikini, the MORE $$$$$$$ that it costs!)

What's NOT to like?

PERSONAL TO "frog": When you get down to College Station/Bryan, PM me & I'll invite you to HOP ON OVER to SA to see our Alamo shrine & feed you a whole bunch of BBQ & Tex-Mex food.
(I know most of the good places for 150 miles in every direction.)

Yea Frog, I put the Starcraft away for the winter also.

I have to get ready for the deer opener next week. I have been working on the little trailer I bought, and as you can guess I ended up tearing it down to the studs.

I think we both deserve a good rest. But come next spring we have to get right back at it. 90 days of good weather is a very short time.

I will try and keep in touch through the winter.

Talk to you soon.
