This is such an AWESOME and INSPIRING BUILD!! I'm getting an itchy pocket book and starting to look around for something like this. Your boat will be a real head turner on the water!! HECK it's a head turner sitting in your shop!! Keep faith and keep up the good work.

Sooooooooo. I lost My drive, desire and vision. It happens to aging men.
Lets restate this. I lost My drive to build the coolest boat in the World. I lost My drive to work after working after working on working. I lost the vision of how cool it could be........ I am making it into a floating "Man Cave". Today I talked with a craftsman to make this into My vision of happiness. I truly miss having a boat in the marina. When it rains and the winds pick up...Heaven. Honestly sitting and enjoying the weather and waves in a covered boat slip in our 1950's marina. After this horrible 50 degree cold passes. Ha I just had to include that!! LOL! The newest build can start! Pic is of trying some ideas. Just trying to enjoy the ride. |

Good memories.Thanks Bob.My blue car is in shop now getting a new coat of light blue. Just ordered a 4x8 sheet of bamboo. I will use this for interior side panels on the Playmaster. Now that I have a plan I am re-ignited. I am cutting out the seat supports, doing that will alleviate the cramped leg issue.

Another step closer. Years ago I spoke with Mercury Jim. He had lots of info. Also a bit over whelming. Some how I did remember something about a special tool for impeller replacement. Truthfully I had given up on this project. But then the idea that I could actually use and enjoy. No way could it go into lake without being able to be used, even if it is just a little. I had not looked for parts in a long time. I typed in Mercury 58a. There in like new condition the special tool. Plus the seller was really helpful and more "stuff" should arrive. Looks like "Four Year Momma" will make it to the lake this year!!

Will be cutting out original seat backs. Will be using beach chairs for now. 4x8 bamboo is here and will decorate the inside walls. Instructions and one more engine tool arrived. So goal is to get in water soon. I hope!!

Cut seat backs out. Cleaned floors. sealed and sprayed bed liner on.

Multiple coats of tinted bed liner. Bamboo installed on one side. I feel like I am now RUNNING towards that elusive finish line.

The boat has now officially been bamboozled. I hope the South Beach Seating Scheme is secured. I suggest four large holes in the bottom of the boat with rope lashing them down. Make sure the rope is waterproof. Beware the large flying fish down there - they might mistake your fins during mating season.

I think I am scared of water. Or just apprehensive of actually launching in public. Just a couple of minor things....like tightening a couple of bolts.
What if I grew fond of it being in my way? What if I really really like it and am disappointed I did not do it better? What if a wood boat guy looks at it with disdain? What if my transom just breaks right off? Maybe the top half just pops off? Maybe I should just put it on Ebay. Man o man I sure like the way she looks in the sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you say Paranoia? Woodie owners will not look at you with distain, I got rid of my Century and replaced it with glass. I don't think anyone here can deny not feeling some angst at the first launch just waiting for something to happen....just PUT THE BILGE PLUG IN
.Motor will run like a top, people will give you the thumbs up. Or do like I do....launch about 5am on a Tuesday morning when everyone is still in bed except for some fishermen who will gladly pull you back to shore. |

In all the excitement of a first launch, just remember the drain plug (and the oars). Be sure to use turn signals in case there's some amphicars driving around your harbor.

She looks beautiful Dave, absolutely gorgeous! You are going to be more critical than anyone else on the job, you know where all the little imperfections are. (I speak from my own experience only.)
It's completely normal to be very apprehensive before/on the first launch - but don't be afraid, you did a fine job. As the gang stated go when the ramps aren't quite so busy, take your time and go over your checklist and GET HER WET. |

Today the last thing on list was crossed off. No more excuses. There is a SMILE growing inside me. Like a kid a week before Christmas. The ol 1959 starts up with a minimum of pulls. Steering all tightened up. Checked all the bolts and stuff like that. Tomorrow at Palm Gardens, a 1950's place with ramp.....Tomorrow could be My last post here.

Seats worked perfectly. Only a few pulls and the engine came to life. I took it out a few times and starting to like this boat. Ok it makes me smile now that it is home. I hit some waves hard and nothing broke. My concern was did I put the two halves back properly. I think over doing it was the proper course.

Playmaster got upgraded seats. To celebrate its and My 60th birthday. I gave it some fresh fuel. 10 pulls she was running. First time in a year? Even though listed for sale, I have no real desire to sell. It is amazingly fun!

Say it ain't so. After all the work why are you selling? I suspect you want to start another project. You are in the prime of your youth. In another 15 years you can begin to start thinking of selling. I'm pushing 75 and still rebuilding these classics. I do add some hand holds though to help getting out of those small seats |
