Some of my favorite CL ads are the ones with a blue tarp covering the entire boat and some even shown at different angles with the tarp still in place.

I know what you mean Melanie. How about the ones "ran good last year", or "hasn't been used in years, but ran great last time it was out." Yuk, yuk, yuk.

Nothing like craigslist!

Or the ever popular. "I bought it last year for a thousand and I'm offering it now for $1200. All it needs is the carb cleaned out. It's a veee haul so it's good. Floor is real solid except a small spot in the back the size of a basketball and transom is excellent other than that spot below the motor. No picks Firm price.

How about "Trailer for sale for $xxx, boat and motor free."
And every boat from a canoe to a cabin cruiser is a "family boat."

My favorite is the

"_______________ (insert transom, floor, deck here) is a little soft, but should be OK...."

Or, "Ran when we parked it"... Especially when it's on a boat that's obviously been parked for a LONG, LONG time....

Boats never been used and 25 mph with a 15 hp motor. Even in the other sections of craigslist. These people coming out of our public schools can't spell. Like I said hull=haul and some who are real mind twisters trying to read. I'm not a grammar natzi but you should at least know how to express yourself.

LOL!! Those are my favorite boats on Craigslist. The Vee Hauls! One of these days I will have a VeeHaul! Those must be faster! Especially with a swivel bass seat screwed to the front deck!

I just looked at this boat closer, it looks like a homebuilt on a buck, instead of molded. Kinda weird.

I always thought Try Haul meant just try-n-haul it home on this piece of junk trailer with no lights, flat tires and froze-up wheel bearings.

Re:Craigslist - continual entertainment 13 years 5 months ago #30849

I'm a Craiglist junkie and there's a couple of things that really irritate me. As previously posted, I can't believe people try to sell a boat on Craigslist with a picture that shows a boat completely covered and then they say,"it looks good". WTH! Also, I don't get those guys that list the boat as,"Deal of the Century", Best Deal out there" etc.. I never open those posts. Last, the guy that posts,"Want to Buy" blah, blah, blah type boat for X amount of money. Then you look at previous posts and there are several nice boats exactly fitting the guy's description. Is he too lazy to call the seller? Thanks for letting me vent. Spring has been a long time coming this year in Western Washington and I'm suffering from Cabin Fever. :P

I see them all the time, Wanted nice ski boat with a V-8. Fast goes to the top of the list. No junk or dreamers. Three years old or so. I'll go to $500.00.

In addition to the aforementioned "Veee Haul", we have...

- The only "V" hulls are ones where the TRANSOM area has a V-shape where it the bottom. That V-shaped area at the bow does NOT make your boat a V-hull when the hull is FLAT at the transom! Oy!

- Only problem is a broken "skag" or "scag". (It's a "SKEG"!)

- These old Mercs are very fast and are used by racers. (insert inflated price here for a fishing motor). Gotta love it when someone heard someone say something they heard somewhere by someone else and then report it as fact.

- Here's a Mercury "Kickenhoffer", "Keekoffer", "Kaykohfer", "Keefkicker", "Kerfenhoff", etc. (Is it really that hard to copy "Kiekhaefer" off the label?)

- Had a guy who posted the model number for his 1960s Johnson 40 in the ad, but he had the vintage off by about 20 years as he had it advertised as a 1980-something. I politely e-mailed him with the correct year, but he got all huffy and e-mailed me back saying I didn't know jack-schtuff and should mind my own business. About 10 minutes later I got another e-mail from the same guy apologizing, because, in fact, I was correct, and he had found an online source that verified that his motor was older than he thought.

- I'm sorry, but a roto-moulded bass buggy with a 9.9 does NOT qualify as a speed boat!

- Just because it's old does NOT mean it's worth a lot of money...

Another great one I just saw-

"Old Evan Rude. Runs great. You have to start it with a drill. The pull start doesn't work for some reason, i think it's because the IDOL isn't set.

All you have to do is adjust the IDOL and a few other MINER tweaks, and it will run and start real good."

He probably can't find a miner to do the tweaking for him, otherwise I'm sure he'd do it before trying to sell :)

I think that if you actually use the term "project boat" in the ad, then the price MUST be less than $1000. Then again, I guess the argument could be made that ALL boats are projects, so maybe that one won't work...

I agree.... And- If it's ever been used as a planter or flower bed- Wether intentionally or otherwise- There should be a $250 limit, even if it has a nice trailor :)

FREE Boat 15' (Lake George) 13 years 5 months ago #31153

But only if you buy the $295 trailer. If you don't buy the trailer the boat is 50 bucks. The part I thought was amazing is that the trailer lights work, and there's even a wiring harness! By the way, stuff in bold I added for your viewing pleasure...

Free boat only if you buy the trailer, otherwise the boat is $50 by itself. It has hull damage in two places. You will see the damage in the pictures. The damage can be repaired with fiberglass, which is not that difficult to do. There are some good instructional videos on youtube. Other than the hull damage the boat is in good condition. It has new carpet and new pocket boards. Custom waterproof cover. No motor, needs outboard. It does have a clear Title. Boat comes with gas tank, steering wheel and steering cable. No seats. I am removing the ones in the pictures to put in another boat. If you want the seats, which are in like new condition, with no cracks then make me an offer. They are only a year old. I would fix the boat myself but I have another larger boat that I am working on.
The Trailer is in good condition. It is a roller trailer with three sets of rollers on each side, and also a row of rollers down the middle. There are a total of 18 adjustable rollers. All of them work. Trailer is solid with no rot. Surface rust in a some places. It is also a pivot trailer with a locking pin. It has a leaf spring suspension and comes with a spare tire. It fits a 1 7/8" ball. It comes with safety chains, winch with strap and arm. It has lights that work and a wiring harness. Solid Trailer. The trailer is worth $350 but if you take the boat I will let it go for $295, or the best reasonable offer.
Specifications: 1978 Imperial Bowrider
